About Hydra Island
The island of Hydra, is located in the heart of the Argo-saronic Gulf. Hydra is one of the most cosmopolitan islands, and at the same time one of the most romantic destinations in Greece. Traditional stone mansions, narrow cobblestoned streets, the the absence of cars which is replenished by the 500 donkeys as means of transportation, confirm why Hydra has preserved its atmosphere through the ages.
It is worth noting that Hydra became famous worldwide thanks to the film “The Boy in a Dolphin”, filmed on the island in 1957 starring Sofia Loren. Hydra has always been a favorite part of art, becoming the focus of artists, actresses, singers, and countless celebrities from around the world such as John Lennon, Eric Klapton, the Rolling Stones, Onassis and Callas, Rex Harrison, Peter Ustinov, Leonard Cohen, Elizabeth Taylor, Henry Fonda and many more!
How to reach us
By Sea...
Arrival on the island is by flying dolphins.
The ferries depart from the port of Piraeus on a daily basis.
The estimated travel time is approximately 1 hour and 50 minutes.

By Car...
For those who wish, they can use a car to get to Hydra.
The directions that follow describe the route from Athens to Metochi, where boarding boats to Hydra take place.
Following the Athens-Corinth Highway, following Isthmus, turn left onto Exit B to Epidaurus.
Drive for about 30 minutes, until the junction for Epidaurus.
At this point you will see a road sign to Poros / Spetses. Following the road to Poros, turn right and then left, under the bridge.
At the next resource point you will see, turn left and 20 minutes later you will reach Galatas. From there, following the coastal road for about half an hour, you will reach Metochi.
Then you can reach Hydra by the following sea lines:
- Freedom I, II & III
- Metoxi Express
- Sea Taxi
Those who starting from Kranidi, Porto Heli, Costa or other areas of the Peloponnese can also go to the port of Ermioni and use the Christos speedboat to Hydra.
